Winners Spotlight

This was their moment. They made history.

Cannes Lions 2024 was a celebration of diversity and a lesson in persistence. Creativity from all over the world was awarded, putting local markets and agencies of all sizes on the global stage — in some cases, for the first time.

Often, the biggest ideas come from the smallest markets. This year, Brandenburg, Reykjavik and GForce, Almaty proved this by taking home the first ever Lions for Iceland and Kazakhstan. See their stories below.

Iceland creativity crowned for the first time

Brandenburg, Reykjavik's Arnar and Bragi celebrate their historic win for Iceland with a Bronze in the Design Lions for their work 'New Gen Energy' for Olgerdin.

Kazakhstan takes home its first-ever Lion

GForce, Almaty’s Yulia and Yevgeniy – joined by Cannes Lions Kazakhstan representative Askhat Uskembayev – reveal the story behind their Gold win in the Social & Influencer Lions for their work for Ruh Fighting Championship, ‘The National Sport of Kazakhstan’.

Independent agencies Golin, London and Boost Brand Accelerator, Peru demonstrated the power of persistence this year. After entering in 2023 and leaving empty handed, both agencies went home, regrouped, took their learnings and applied them to the year ahead. The result? Take a look below.

“It's amazing though, what failure can teach you when you listen.”

Golin London's George Bryant and Alex Wood discuss the journey behind their two-time Grand Prix winning work, ‘The Misheard Version’.

"We learned a lot and all these learnings, we applied to this new case."

Boost Brand Accelerator’s Luciana and Carlos celebrate the company’s first ever Lion for their work 'The Cushioning Route' for Nike, which took home a Bronze Lion in Outdoor.

For the first time this year, we announced the Bronze and Silver winners ahead of the Awards Shows each night and invited them to celebrate with a photo on the red carpet. Dozens of talented teams came along each day and told us what the win meant to them.

“I feel about two foot taller. Being a creative is entirely subjective, you spend your entire career holding things up for people and it's based entirely on how they feel. A Lion is one of the few objective things that proves that you're good at this.”

John Wilds, Copywriter, Edelman

“Cannes Lions is our dream, it’s the biggest thing for us. The visibility that being here brings to our work is unlike we could achieve anywhere else.”

Sttenio Costa, VP Creative Director, Area 23
